The power and the volume of the bass boost should be increased gradually. You should also consider increasing the frequency of the bass boost.
After that, the power level and the bass boost should be decreased gradually. After that, you should switch to the level control. You should turn the volume down and increase the frequency. To make sure that the bass boost is controlled properly, you can use the signal generator. If there is a problem with the signal generator, you can also try to tune the sub amp.
Finally, you should adjust the low-pass filter. Usually, this filter is adjustable but in some cars, you have to get it done manually. If you are not able to adjust the low-pass filter, you can place it to its ideal position using a tone control. The final result is the correct bass level control.
