MG MGA
Since MG set up in 1924, the Abingdon-based company has produced some amazing cars. Many of these have been regarded as some of the best-looking in their generation.
The MGA was one of the most popular models to come out of the MG range. It brought a new era for the company and was certainly a car to be proud of. It was a sleek and beautiful sports car that wasn’t the fastest of its time but it was superb to drive thanks to its agility, sweet gearchange, light steering and excellent performance.

Throughout production, the MGB went through several evolutionary changes such as the addition of a plastic and foam dashboard in 1969, full rubber bumpers from 1974 onwards and front fenders made from aluminum from 1975 to 1980.
All of these features were designed to make the MGB a highly versatile and reliable car. As a result, the MGB has remained very popular with classic car enthusiasts over the years.
MG TD
The MG TD was a popular car that helped to put MG on a firm footing both at home and abroad. During the war, the British government encouraged manufacturers to export as much of their products as possible to help fund the country’s economy, and this helped the TC and TD to make an impact on the US market.
Despite its comparatively small engine size, the TD managed to be an extremely comfortable and fast car to drive. It was also one of the best-handling MGs ever produced, and this was due to a number of improvements made to the chassis.
For example, the TD’s independent front suspension was a design that had been used in many cars of the period, and this allowed for a more stable ride. This improved handling enabled the TD to be more responsive on the road and made it easier to perform direction changes.
It also gave the TD more ground clearance and allowed it to tackle narrower roads with ease. Unlike the TC, which had its front bumpers cut away to enable it to be driven with its bonnet up, the TD had its own front and rear bumpers fitted as standard equipment.
With the exception of a few minor changes, the TD was pretty much a direct replacement for the TC. The TD’s body was slightly wider and the wings were more stylized, which helped to give it a more enveloping appearance.
It was also a little more up-to-date on the inside, with the addition of a number of features that had been previously available only in a few Nuffield vehicles. These included an adjustable steering column, dual production capable LHD and RHD models, a choice of left or right hand drive, an interchangeable dashboard, and better brakes. A radio and heater were also offered as options.
MG TF
The MG TF was one of the most popular sports cars to be sold in Britain. It was based on the MG F platform and offered a range of models with different engine sizes.
The basic TF115 had a 1.6-litre K series 16-valve engine with 116bhp, while the TF135 used a 1.8-litre Rover VVC 157bhp unit. The range was supplemented by the TF Stepspeed with a Rover 75 spec 120bhp 1.8-litre unit and a CVT gearbox.
These are quite rare and are less desirable than the standard manual models, but they can be a good buy if you can find a well maintained example with low mileage. The K series is a delicate engine, susceptible to head gasket failure and coolant leaks, so you’ll want to ensure that you buy a car with the correct level showing.
Despite its reputation, the TF is a very fun and practical sports car to drive. Its 1.6 and 1.8-litre engines are able to be revved hard to deliver their best, and its chassis has a great blend of ride and handling.
